Who says you’ve got to be a kid (or rich) to enjoy Halloween fun in Kansas City?

We’ve put together this list of free and cheap Halloween parties and events for adults in Kansas City so you can have some scares and thrills without frightening prices.

Some of these Halloween events are in bars so you have to be at least 21+ for the thrills and chills. Others are performances and activities that are fun for adults but will welcome kids of a certain age.

Prices for some of these local Halloween fun and entertainment opportunities are a little more than what we’d normally advertise on our site. We’ve decided to include them anyway since some people may want to splurge for Halloween this year.

The Beast, Edge of Hell and Macabre Cinema

September 16 – November 5, 2022 (Friday and Saturday evenings,), plus Monday October 31
Location: West Bottoms, Kansas City, MO

Admission: $27-$45+

Experience one, both or all three award-winning, professional level haunted houses – The Beast, The Edge of Hell or Macabre Cinema. Kids 12+ can go through the haunted houses if accompanied by an adult.

Worlds of Fun Halloween Haunt

September 16 – October 29, 2022
Location: Worlds of Fun
Hours: Park hours vary; Halloween Haunt starts at 6:30 p.m.
Admission: Tickets start at $39.99

When the sun goes down, little ones are ushered out of Worlds of Fun and this popular Kansas City attraction becomes a haunted and frightening landscape known as Halloween Haunt.

Exiled Trail of Terrors

September 30 – October 29, 2022 (Friday and Saturday evenings)
Location: ZipKC – Bonner Springs, KS
Hours: 7 p.m. to at midnight
Admission: $40 (Fridays), $50 (Saturdays)

Kids can come to this scary outdoor haunted house-type activity, but they need to be at least 12 years old. Exiled Trail of Terrors is a horror-filled hike in the woods within Bonner Springs, KS.

Horror at the Drive-In

October 1, 2022
Location: B&B Twin Drive-In – Independence, MO
Hours: 4 p.m.
Admission: $10 per car

Start the night with a horror-themed swap and shop, followed by Halloween movie double feature.

1859 Jail Ghost Tours and Ghost Hunts

Experience history and haunting during three different types of Halloween experiences at the 1859 Jail Museum on the square in Independence, MO. Kids are welcome at the tours but it’s not recommended for any under the age of 7.

Trick-or-Treat Geocache

Hours: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Admission: $7 for JOCO residents; $8 for non-residents

Explore outdoors with this adventurous twist on trick-or-treating. Costumes are encouraged.

Hocus Pocus Escape Room

October 15, 17 and 18, 2022
Location: Indian Creek Library – 16100 W. 135th Street

Hours: Varies by day – Noon to 4:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Admission: FREE

Teens and adults are invited to explore the abandoned house of the Sanderson sisters. Once inside, participants use clues and curiosity to find their way out. Feel free to dress in Hocus Pocus-themed costumes.

Registration required for a 25-minute time slot in the Hocus Pocus Escape Room. Teams are limited to six people. Only one person from each team needs to register.

Electric Poe

October 20 – 23, 2022 (Thursdays – Sundays)
Location: The Coterie Theater – Crown Center Shops
Hours: Shows vary by day
Admission: Single tickets range from $12-$15

Live theatrical readings of Edgar Allen Poe classics are brought to live at The Coterie Theater during Electric Poe. Kids can be part of this Halloween event but should be ages 10+

Alexander Majors House Ghost Tours

October 21 and 28, 2022
Location: Alexander Majors House Museum – Kansas City, MO
Hours: Multiple tours from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Admission: $20 (includes a beverage and souvenir)

This 21+ ghost tour touches on stories of ghostly sightings at this historical venue with a reputation of being one of the most haunted locations in Kansas City. Attendees get to enjoy cocktail with admission and souvenir cup.

Wornall House Ghost & Architectural Tour

Pawn and Pint Halloween Haunt Party

Kansas City’s popular board game pub hosts their annual Halloween Party October 22 with costume contest, trivia, food trucks and drinks. Bottomless wells are available for $25 from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Must be 21+ to attend the Pawn and Pint Halloween Haunt Party.

Spooky Trivia Night

Nightmare at the Elms Monster Ball

Costumes are encouraged for the Monster Ball at the Elms hotel. Attendees must be 18 or older.
