Free Irishpalooza Festival in Martin City

Martin City has become known for their St. Patrick’s Day parade. Over the years, the parade has evolved into a full day of pageantry, music, food, contests and family fun. This year’s Martin City Irishpalooza is Sunday, March 14, 2010. Events start at 11:30 a.m. in the Martin City downtown district, culminating with a two-hour parade at 2:00 p.m.

Like last year, when crowds approached 25,000, the celebration will host a range of entertainment, including live music, prince & princess contests, Irish Idol finals, clowns, games, crafts and an inflatable slide and moonwalk.

Free Kansas City Area St. Patrick’s Day Parades

Nobody does St. Patrick’s day like Kansas City. Take your pick of area parades.

March 13:

• 2:00 p.m. Brookside — begins at 65th & Wornall
• 1:00 p.m. Lee’s Summit  – 3rd & Douglas, downtown
• 4:00  p.m. Belton — Main Street, downtown

March 14:

• 1:00 p.m. Shawnee — begins at Monrovia St. heading east
• 2:00 p.m. Martin City — 135th Street

March 17:

• 11:00 a.m. Kansas City — begins on Broadway at 33rd Street
• 1:00 p.m. Lawrence — through downtown

Free Boomer Blast

This sounds like a good deal (can’t beat free). Longview Community College is hosting Boomer  Blast 2010 (Reinspire, Rewire, Rehire) on Saturday, March 13, 2010. There will be free sessions from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p .m. on everything from yoga to urban agriculture to social networking to finding a job. 

The free event is for Baby Boomers, Pre Boomers and Post Boomers.

Longview Community College is at 500 SW Longview Rd. in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Free Soup Cooking Classes

Soup’s on March 13th and 20th at the Louisburg Cider Mill. Lois Hart, who attended the New Orleans School of Cooking and The Midwest Academy of the Culinary Arts, will give free soup cooking classes both days at 11:00 a.m. Reservations are required. Call 913-837-5202.

The Louisburg Cider Mill is twenty miles south of Kansas City. Take US Hwy. 69 to the Louisburg exit (Hwy. 68), then go west for three miles.

Free Fishing Activities at Bass Pro Shops

Bass Pro Shops has a weekend of free family fun planned for March 13-14, 2010, from noon to 5:00 p.m.:

• Casting Game
• Shooting Gallery
• Your Photo on the cover and Field & Stream (you’ll download when you get home)
• Sailboat Races (you can build a race sailboat Saturday while supplies last)
• Wiggle Fish Craft (Sunday only while supplies last)
• Fishing Basics — Learn how to set up a rod & reel, choose the best baits and tie a know to use with your hook. You can also learn about different types of fish, where they live, and what they eat.

In the Kansas City area there are Bass Pro Shops in Olathe and Independence.

Free Snake Saturday Parade in North Kansas City

Practice your parade watching and get geared up for Kansas City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade at the Snake Saturday Parade & Family Fun Festival in North Kansas City, Missouri. The Snake Saturday Parade is March 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. The parade route starts at 14th & Swift, where it travels north on Swift to Armour Road, then east down Armour to Howell Street, then south, where it ends after crossing 18th Street.

This family-friendly parade, with more than 100 entries, usually lasts about two hours. After the parade, stick around for the Annual North Kansas City Missouri State Barbeque Championship and the Family Funfest. The festival grounds stay open until 3:00 p.m.
