It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around Gardner, KS.
Keep your holiday spirits high and your expenses low with plenty of family-friendly Christmas activities, courtesy of the Gardner Parks and Recreation Department and many other civic departments and citizens.
Christmas in the Park
Thousands of beautiful lights shine in Cornerstone Park during the holidays starting with the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 29 at 7 p.m. This is a FREE event that includes seasonal music and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Santa’s Workshop
Santa and Mrs. Claus make an appearance at Cornerstone Park on two separate occasions this holiday season.
This FREE event gives kids the chance to visit with Santa and get a commemorative ornament and candy cane.
Santa’s Workshop schedule is:
- November 29 – following the the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at 7 p.m.
- December 12 – 5 to 6:30 p.m.
In the event of poor weather, Santa’s Workshop moves into the main lobby of City Hall.
Photos with Santa
Get dressed in your favorite holiday outfit and have professional photos with Santa taken at Cornerstone Park on December 4 from 9 a.m. to noon. and 1 to 5 p.m.
Pre-registration required to reserve a time slot.
Cost is $10 per family and includes:
- Professional photo (download or print from photographer’s site)
- Commemorative ornament
- Candy cane
Breakfast with Santa
Have a merry morning during Breakfast with Santa from 8 to 11 a.m. on December 11 at the Green Building at the Johnson County Fairgounds.
Tickets include festive craft making and all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, juice and pancakes. Prices are:
- $5 in advance
- $6 at the door
- FREE kids under 1
Professional photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus can be purchased for $5.

Flashlight Candy Cane Hunt
Bring a flashlight to Cornerstone Park and help find hundreds of hidden candy canes Santa has left behind.
Registration is required by December 14 for this event happening December 16 at 5:30 p.m.
This activity is appropriate for kids ages 2-12. Cost is $3 per child.
