Having a Great Day at The K
Here are some helpful things to know when you and your friends and family are attending a Kansas City Royals game.
Kansas City Royals 2020 Season Game Parking
There is a lot of construction going on around roadways near Kauffman Stadium. Some ramps will be closed and it’s possible some lanes will be shut down at different times. Be sure to give yourself extra time to get to the stadium.
Parking tollgates are staffed beginning several hours prior to the scheduled first pitch.
Regular season game parking is $15 for cars and motorcycles. Oversized vehicles (those that take up more than one space) pay $20. RVs and buses are charged $25. You can buy parking passes in advance online. Bring cash if you’re buying your pass at the gate as they don’t take cards.
Kansas City Royals 2020 Season Game Tailgating
Tailgating is a fun (and cheap) way to start off a Kansas City Royals game. You don’t get quite the same crowd as you do next door at Arrowhead stadium but there are plenty of people enjoying pre-game festivities in the parking lot of Kauffman Stadium.
Keep the following in mind when tailgating for a Royals game.
Space: You need to keep your tailgating activities in front of or behind your vehicle. You can’t take up a separate parking space (even if you paid for an extra one) and you need to make sure you aren’t blocking traffic.
Time: You can’t tailgate the entire game. You’ll need to go into the ballpark by the start of the second inning. You can hang out after the game for about an hour at which time the parking lot closes.
Food and Drink: Grills are allowed. So is alcohol if you’re of age. Don’t overdo it. If you’re drunk, you won’t be let into the stadium even if you’ve already bought a ticket. Regardless, you won’t be able to bring any alcohol into the stadium with you.
Stadium Gates Open
Gates will open one hour before game time on Monday – Thursday games. Gates will open 1.5 hours prior to game time for all Friday – Sunday games, as well as any Giveaway Games.
There are some exceptions for Crown Club ticket holders and those participating in the Outfield Experience.
Eating at the ballpark is as much a part of the game as cheering for the team. The expense can add up fast, especially if you have a several people to feed.
You can scale back your cost by bringing a few things along. You’re allowed to bring in a purse, bag or soft-sided cooler that doesn’t exceed the dimensions of 16 inches long, 16 inches tall and eight inches wide. In that container you can have one sealed/unopened bottle of water person (one liter or less) and snacks that are packed in paper, plastic or soft-sided containers.
Also, don’t forget about cheap hot dogs and peanuts on Friday Buck Nights.
