The Lenexa Spinach Festival will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park. Admission is free.
This event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., celebrates Lenexa’s history as the the Spinach Capital of the World during the 1930s. Activities for the day include live entertainment, a food court, arts and antique vendors, a spinach recipe contest, kids’ activities, spinach cooking demonstrations, and more.

Pick your favorite spinach treat in the categories of appetizer, salad, entree or dessert. Cash prizes are given to the winners. Entry details here.

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Inflatables, tractor trikes, paddle boats, arts and crafts, Girl Scouts water station
10 a.m. to noon: Home Depot building project (while supplies last)
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Cane pole fishing
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Face painting and balloon twisting
11 a.m.: Swee’Pea baby crawling contest
2 p.m.: Rock skipping contest
2:30 p.m.: Mr. Stinky Feet – children’s music performance
11 a.m.: World’s Largest Spinach Salad served (Lenexa Historical Society at Food Court)
11 a.m. to noon: Spinach cooking demonstration by Connie Berggren
12:30 to 1:30 p.m.: Spinach recipe contest entries due
2 p.m.: Spinach Recipe Contest judging — samples available following judging (after 3 p.m.)
Location and parking
Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park is located at 87th Street and Lackman Road. Free satellite parking is available at:
- Lenexa Public Safety Complex, 12500 W. 87th St. Parkway
- Business parking lot on the southeast corner of 95th Street and Lackman Road
Free shuttles run from these lots approximately every 10 minutes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
