I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day. In 2019, National Ice Cream Day will be Sunday, July 21.
Let’s all scream for these FREE and cheap ice cream deals here in Kansas City. Keep watching this list because we’re not worried about brain freeze and will be adding more deals as we find them.
Baskin-Robbins: On National Ice Cream Day, Sunday, July 21, guests can buy two prepacked quarts of any ice cream at participating stores for $7.99. On Wednesday, July 31, celebrate Baskin-Robbins’ birthday and get two prepacked quarts for $7.99 and $1.70 scoops. The deal is for 4 oz. single scoops only. Any toppings and waffle cones are extra. Cannot be combined with other offers. Kansas City has several Baskin-Robbins locations. Check with your favorite shop to make sure they’re participating:
- Kansas: Mission, Olathe, Overland Park, Prairie Village
- Missouri: Independence, Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Liberty
Bettie Rae’s Ice Cream: Local favorite Bettie Rae’s is hosting a party at its Waldo location (7140 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO) from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 21. Grab some scoops, play games and enjoy food and drink from some other local businesses.
Coldstone Creamery: Join the Cold Stone Rewards Club and get a buy one, get one free Cold Stone Creation dessert added to your account. You will also receive a BOGO free Creation dessert on your birthday. Receive $5 off purchases with every 50 accumulated points.
Freezing Moo: Freezing Moo is having Buy One, Get One Half Off ice cream all day on Sunday, July 21. This promotion is available at both Overland Park locations: 6936 W. 135th Street and inside Oak Park Mall at 11885 W. 95th Street. Additionally, the location at 135th Street is having Buy One, Get One FREE ice cream deal from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Monday during July so stop by for a visit on July 22 and July 29.
Grocery Stores: Sometimes ice cream at home is a treat in itself. Here are some deals I’ve found in some of the weekly grocery store ads.
- Hen House: Select variety half gallons of Edy’s ice cream are 2 for $6. Find out what you would do for a Klondike bar. These treats are on sale 3 for $9.99.
- Hyvee: Local Hyvee stores have a lot of ice cream specials featured in their weekly ad but my favorite is the Blue Bunny Personals ice cream cups (5.5 oz.) that are 10 for $10. Have a party and let everyone pick their favorite flavor.
- Price Chopper: Select varieties of Mars ice cream novelties (M&M ice cream sandwiches, Snickers ice cream bars, Twix ice cream bars) are 2 for $7. Fourteen ounce containers of Baskin Robbins ice cream are 2 for $5.
KC Running Company: Strap on your running gear and join a group run from the KC Running Company (200 E. 135th Street, Kansas City, MO) at 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 21 followed by an ice cream cool down. Run two miles or run twelve miles, then you get the frozen treats.
Nékter Juice Bar: Vegans aren’t left out! Grab a Buy One, Get One vegan, dairy-free Skoop special on National Ice Cream Day. Get the deal all day long via the company’s rewards app. Kansas City’s only location is at Hawthorne Plaza, 5005 W. 119th Street, Overland Park, KS.
PetSmart:On Saturday, July 20th, and Sunday, July 21st, dogs get free dog-friendly ice cream topped with dog biscuit treats at PetSmart PetsHotel locations. Kansas City PetSmart stores with a PetsHotel include: Merriam, KS (5810 Antioch Road); Overland Park, KS (11501 Metcalf Avenue) and Tiffany Springs – Kansas City, MO (8970 NW Skyview Avenue).
Potbelly Sandwich Shop: On Sunday, July 21, get a FREE regular shake with purchase of any entree. This offer is in-shop only so head to a local Potbelly shop, order a regular shake when you order your sandwich, entree salad, or Pick-Your-Pair and mention this offer to the cashier. Kansas City locations include the Country Club Plaza (4725 Broadway), Olathe (11911 S. Blackbob Road) and three in Overland Park (11780 W. 95th Street; 6751 College Boulevard; and 6475 W. 135th Street).
Sonic Drive-In:Get half price shakes, floats and ice cream slushes after 8 pm – and you don’t have to wait for National Ice Cream Day to do it.
Steak N’ Shake: This isn’t a National Ice Cream Day special, but it’s yummy enough to add to the list. Get half price shakes and drinks during Happy Hour from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Kansas City has a half dozen Steak N’ Shake locations. Find yours here.
Sylvia and Maddie’s Homemade Ice Cream: This family-owned ice cream shop has locations in Olathe (11925 S. Strang Line Road) and Lawrence (1014 Massachusetts Street). Every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to close you can students can pair up to take advantage of the College Night special of buy-one-get-one-FREE on single scoop dishes or cones. Must show college student IDs and have two people present.
Williams Sonoma: All stores will be participating in this special Ice Cream Month promotion. Head over to Williams Sonoma in Town Center Plaza (5204 West 119th Street, Leawood, KS) July 15-21, 2019 for ice cream demonstrations and tastings. Plus, you can enter to win a Breville Smart Scoop Ice Cream Maker. FREE admission.
Quik Trip: Here’s another that doesn’t require you to wait for a special day or month. Quik Trip convenient stores offer 49 cent cones every day. They also have milkshakes and QT Twisters which are a blend of vanilla soft serve ice cream and one of the following: strawberry, banana, wildberry, superfruit, caramel, blackberry, chocolate, Oreo cookies or available candy pieces. When searching for a Quik Trip location with ice cream, be sure to choose one with a QT Kitchen. There are dozens throughout Kansas City.
