Some are suited for in-person activities, but we also have some things that will work well if you’re apart from your mom. We’ll continue to update this list, especially if we find Mother’s Day freebies or deals offered in 2020 so be sure to check back.

Mother’s Day Cards
Go with a classic card as a standalone or paired with another token of appreciation. Here are a couple of options that are especially good if you’re on a budget or can’t get to the store.
Greetings Island: Choose from nearly 150 online cards you can send online or print out to deliver yourself – all FREE.
American Greetings: Send FREE digital postcards — everything from funny to comforting.
Flowers and Plants
Flowers are a big Mother’s Day tradition. You can think beyond bouquets or a fresh arrangement. Green plants will last longer than fresh cut flowers and can sometimes be transplanted outside. If your mom has a green thumb for gardening, consider buying vegetable plants for her to tend to this season.
Kansas City Farmer’s Markets: More Kansas City farmers markets are opening or doing some form of delivery and/or curbside business. Many offer a variety of fresh flowers, hanging baskets and greenery or garden plants. See our full farmers market post for the latest updates.
Kansas City Rose Society: You can have a rose bush planted in honor of your mother. Bushes are planted in the Laura Conyers Smith Rose Garden at Loose Park in Kansas City, MO. A single rose bush is $30 but there are options for upgrading. Order online and arrange for a hand-written certificate to be sent to your mom.
Westlake Ace Hardware: Whether you’re looking for flowers and plants or want to cross mom’s home improvement projects off the list, Westlake Ace Hardware has locations throughout the metro that have the feel of an old-fashioned community hardware store. Don’t let the nostalgia if this Lenexa headquartered chain fool you. The chain is on top of modern and safe conveniences with in-store shopping and online orders that can be picked up curbside or delivered home.
FREE Wildflower Seeds: If mom wants her own part of nature, be sure she signs up for FREE wildflower seeds from Arm & Hammer.
