Ghost Tours and Ghost Hunts at the 1859 Jail in Independence

Hauntings and history come together  during select weekends in October at the 1859 Jail Museum in Independence, MO.

Jackson Co. Historical Society and Paranormal Activity Investigators are hosting multiple Halloween events as part of the jail tours

1859 Jail Museum Ghost Tours

While taking a guided tour of the 1859 Jail Museum, guests will hear about history, ghostly tales and apparitions inside the building. This is not a jump-out-and-scare-you kind of ghost tour, but there is some interested haunted history to be shared. 

1859 Jail Museum Ghost Tours are $30 per person, plus fees. Tours last approximately 90 minutes and are scheduled for the following dates and times: 

Saturday, October 9-10: 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Friday, October 16-17: 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

1859 Jail Museum Paranormal Investigation

The 1859 Jail Museum Paranormal Investigation takes guests through a short guided tour of the jail highlighting its history and ghostly knowledge.

From there, the lights are turned off and ghost hunting begins by using real paranormal equipment. Guests then break into smaller groups to do an actual paranormal investigation of different areas. 

1859 Jail Museum Paranormal Investigations are $70 per person, plus fees. The investigation spans from 7 p.m. to midnight and are scheduled for the following dates:

• Friday, October 23
• Saturday, October 24
• Friday, October 30
• Saturday, October 31

Tips for the Best Ghostly Experience

All ages are welcome on either tour, but this is a museum so everyone is asked to be careful around the valuable items. 

This is a walking tour so wear comfortable shoes. 

Feel free to bring devices to capture photos, video or live stream the event. 

Buy tickets ahead of time. The Halloween activities at the 1859 Jail Museum almost always sell out in advance. 

1859 Jail, Marshal’s Home & Museum

The 1859 Jail, Marshal’s Home & Museum is located at 217 North Main Street in Independence, MO.

The museum is open for regular tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday from April through October.  It is also open weekends in December. 

Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for children 6 to 16.
