Lift off summer with hot air balloon fun at the National WWI Museum and Memorial.
The first ever Great Balloon Glow is taking place on the North and Southeast lawns of the museum and memorial on Sunday, May 30. The event is FREE and open to the public.
Attendees can begin gathering at 6 p.m. to listen to music, picnic and enjoy refreshments from local food trucks. As an added bonus The Strawberry Swing will be on site with vendors selling handmade items of painting, photography, woodworking, and more.
The Great Air Ballo0n Glow begins around 8:30 p.m. and lasts for 90 minutes. Hot air balloons will be grounded, and propane burners will be periodically lit to keep the balloons inflated.
According to the museum and memorials Facebook page, balloons—also called dirigibles or air ships—were primarily used in WWI to collect reconnaissance miles above the front lines.
