You haven’t truly experienced Kansas City until you’ve experienced its Jazz scene.
Here are some places in Kansas City where you can listen to this Kansas City treasure live for FREE (you may need to buy drinks and/or food, of course). Click on the links below to see who’s performing and at what time.
Some places that used to be free now have a cover charge, but we’re including them because they are still a good deal.

The Blue Room
Free or cheap live jazz sessions:
Monday, 7 to 10 p.m. Monday Night Jam Sessions. $10 cover.
First and second Thursdays, FREE Jazz @ Noon.
Friday, 5 to 7:30 p.m., Indigo Hour. $10 cover
Friday night sets are at 8:30 and 10 p.m. Cover charge may vary, but it is usually $10 for one set and $15 for both.
Chaz on the Plaza
Free live jazz pretty much every day. Most are evening performances from 6 to 10 p.m.
Green Lady Lounge
Free live jazz seven nights a week with $10 cover charge. Green Lady Lounge is temporarily closed for repairs, but the music has moved next door to Black Dolphin.
Jazz: A Louisiana Kitchen
Free live jazz almost every night of the week at one or more of their locations.
KC Juke House
Live music every night (not always jazz, so check their calendar on Facebook)
The Majestic
The Jazz Club is open nightly unless otherwise noted.
The Phoenix
Live jazz nightly. Some acts have a cover charge.
Ted’s Taproom
This newer venue showcases live music from 8 to 11:30 p.m. (and sometimes longer) every night but Monday, when it is closed. There is a $10 cover charge on Fridays and Saturdays. You can find the schedule of performers here.
