Calling all Kansas City railfans and history buffs — the ultimate train experience is rolling into town!
As part of Union Pacific’s coast-to-coast tour celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States, the legendary Big Boy No. 4014 steam locomotive is making a special stop at Kansas City’s historic Union Station. Of the 25 steam locomotives constructed in the 1940s, No. 4014 is one of only eight still in existence, and the only operating Big Boy in the world today after being restored in 2019.
This is a rare, must-see event for the entire family. Grab your cameras and head trackside to witness a true marvel of American engineering. Here is everything you need to know to plan your visit.
Event Details and Location
- Where: Union Station Kansas City (30 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, MO)
- Arrival: Tuesday, July 21, at 5:30 p.m.
- Public Viewing Hours: Wednesday, July 22, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Admission: FREE and open to the public
- Departure: Thursday morning at 9 a.m., heading to Topeka and eventually back to Cheyenne, Wyoming.
