Kids 14 and younger can participate in the 3rd annual youth fishing derby in Overland Park for just $5. This is a catch-and-release event put on Saturday, June 15 by the City of Overland Park Neighborhood Programs at South Lake Park, 7601 W. 86th Street.
Here’s the schedule of activities:
- 8:30 a.m. – Check-in and registration. The first 75 kids participating get a t-shirt, water bottle and bag of other goodies.
- 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. – Fishing from the bank. Parents need to stick around and supervise. Kids can only use worms for bait, no artificial lures. Each kid will be given eight worms for FREE.
- 10:45 a.m. – Awards given out.
Registration is required. Take care of that here.
There is a $5 fee for each kid that can be paid by check, cash or credit card in person the day of the event or at the Myron E. Scafe Building, 8500 Antioch, Overland Park.
BYOP – bring your own fishing poles. Some lawn chairs wouldn’t hurt either.
Food trucks will be on site so attendees can buy breakfast.
