The Olathe Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a veterans appreciation coffee on Veterans Day Monday, Nov. 11, 2019.
This is a FREE event, but registration is required, as space is limited. The last day for registration is Thursday, Nov. 7.
This event begins at 8:30 a.m. and includes coffee, juice and pastries. It will be held at the Olathe Community Center, 1205 E. Kansas City Road.
In addition to refreshments and fellowship, Vietnam veteran John Reichley, will speak.
According to the Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page, Mr. Reichley is a retired U.S. Army officer who served in several positions at the Command and General Staff College since 1978. During his active duty he served in the 2nd, 5th, and 10th cavalry regiments. He was in a cavalry squadron in Vietnam, and there for the Tet Offensive.
Mr. Reichley is a Fellow in The Company of Military Historians, a member of the Ft. Leavenworth Historical Society, Leavenworth County Historical Society, American Society of Military Insignia Collectors, and Ohio Valley Military Society. He also has a twice weekly column for The Leavenworth Times and has authored hundreds of articles for magazines and newspapers around the world.
