Here’s another goodie holiday to celebrate – National Frozen Custard Day is Saturday, August 8, 2020. There are a few good deals to be had in Kansas City and who couldn’t use a sweet treat at a sweet price.
Frozen custard started out in the U.S. as a novelty, but has grown more popular and made its way into a mainstream dessert. The ingredients are similar to ice cream (milk, cream and sugar), but custard contains pasteurized egg yolk which helps give it a trademark smooth and creamy texture. It is also made through a slow churning process to minimize air and ice crystals.

On Aug. 8, you can get $1 off any frozen custard treat at Freddy’s.
In addition to the $1 frozen custard offer, Freddy’s will donate a portion of sales from that day to the Kids in Need Foundation, an organization that gives school supplies to children across the country.

Andy’s Frozen Custard
Frozen custard has strong roots on the other side of the state line as well. Did you know Andy’s Frozen Custard, a dessert-only chain, was founded in Osage Beach, Missouri and is headquartered in Springfield?
We heard about Andy’s Frozen Custard offering $1.86 sundaes (they opened their first store in 1986) on National Frozen Custard Day so we did a little research. Unfortunately, none of the locations in Kansas City are participating. If you find yourself in Wichita you can pick up the deal there.
Lion’s Choice: The Midwest is all over National Frozen Custard Day this year. St. Louis-based Lion’s Choice has a deal that roars all the way through Labor Day Weekend. Lion’s Choice is giving away a free large cone or cup of vanilla frozen custard Aug. 8-Sept. 2, 2019.
