Light Up the Lawn Free Concert Series

The Midwest Trust Center (MTC) and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art have teamed up to host the free Light Up the Lawn Concert Series.

This annual tradition brings local musicians to the Nerman Museum lawn on the campus of Johnson County Community College (JCCC) in Overland Park. All performances are free to the public with no tickets or reservations required.

The 2026 Concert Lineup

All performances take place on Friday evenings at 8 p.m. (Sunset) on the Nerman Museum lawn. These are the remaining dates.

August 21, 2026: Katy Guillen & The Drive

The Vibe: Indie roots rock
The Artists: Katy Guillen (vocals, guitar) and Stephanie Williams (drums)
Why You Can’t Miss It: Fresh off touring across the Midwest, Northeast, and West Coast (where they opened for guitarist Robin Trower), Katy Guillen & The Drive are bringing their album Make That Sound back home.

August 28, 2026: Found A Job (A Tribute to Talking Heads)

The Vibe: Energetic, nostalgic and dance-heavy ’80s rock.
The Artists: Formed in 2012, this 8-piece ensemble replicates the iconic sound of the Talking Heads.
Why You Can’t Miss It: Found A Job focuses heavily on the “Expanded Heads” era, covering songs from albums like Remain in Light and Speaking in Tongues. Expect more than two hours of live music, with the props, costumes and choreography popularized in the classic concert film “Stop Making Sense.”

What to Pack: Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets.
Alcohol Policy: Please note that outside alcohol is prohibited on the JCCC campus.
Food Trucks: Arrive early!Food trucks will be parked nearby so you can grab a bite before the music starts.
Parking Notice: The MTC east garage and upper lots are undergoing maintenance. Concertgoers are encouraged to park at the Regnier Center and allow a few extra minutes to walk to the lawn.
