Leap Day Fun Factoids
The Earth goes around the sun in 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45 seconds. This creates approximately an “extra” 6 hours each year, or 24 hours every four years.
This extra 24 hours is accounted for by the addition of Leap Day (February 29) to the calendar every four years.
Someone born on Leap Day is known as a “leapling” or a “leaper”. They usually celebrate their birthday on February 28 or March 1 in a non-leap year.
The odds of being born on Leap Day are 1 in 1,461.
This is a pretty exclusive club. There are just over 187,000 Leapings in the United States.
