Like Rudolph, the Plaza Lighting Ceremony is best descried as “the most famous of them all”, at least in Kansas City.
The holiday season in Kansas City wouldn’t be complete without thousands of lights outlining 15 blocks of the Country Club Plaza.
This year marks the 91st year for this Kansas City holiday tradition, which is taking place as a broadcast-only event at 6 p.m. on Nov. 26, 2020 (Thanksgiving night). KMBC 9 in Kansas City is the broadcast partner for the hour-long production.
This year’s ceremony includes musical and dance performances from several local acts.
Crowds will not be allowed to gather on the Plaza this year.
The Plaza Lights will be illuminated from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., Thanksgiving night through Jan. 10, 2021.
Parking at the Plaza
While crowds aren’t allowed to gather at the Plaza for the ceremony, you can enjoy a nice drive through look during the holiday season or park and get out and walk around (keeping a distance, of course).
FREE parking is available year round in several garages at The Plaza. Street parking and valet parking are also available throughout the Plaza.
