Like Rudolph, the Plaza Lighting Ceremony is best descried as “the most famous of them all”, at least in Kansas City. The holiday season in Kansas City wouldn’t be complete without thousands of lights outlining 15 blocks of the Country Club Plaza.
This year marks the 90th year for this Kansas City holiday tradition, which takes place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on November 28, 2019 (Thanksgiving night) on the Main Stage at Nichols Road & Pennsylvania, by Brio Tuscan Grille.
Plaza Lights Ceremony Schedule of Events
- 5–6 p.m.: Pre-show with giveaways and performances
- 6–7 p.m.: 90th Annual Plaza Lighting Ceremony
- 6:54 p.m.: Flip of the switch, followed by fireworks; this year’s celebrity guest is actress/comedian Kansas City native Heidi Gardner
- 7–8 p.m.: Post-ceremony concert featuring The Elders
The Plaza Lights will be illuminated from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., Thanksgiving night through Jan. 12, 2020.
Parking at the Plaza
FREE parking is available year round in several garages at The Plaza. Street parking and valet parking are also available throughout the Plaza.
