On Friday, February 6, 2015, the Plaza Branch of the Kansas City Public Library is holding an event titled Secret Songs of the Underground Railroad. Admission is free.
Here’s a blurb about the event from the Plaza Library website:
“Through storytelling and song, vocalist and cultural historian Brother John helps young audience members explore the hidden, coded meanings and messages of classic spirituals and folk tunes used by Underground Railroad conductors in spiriting fugitive slaves to freedom.”
This event starts at 6:30 p.m. and is appropriate for ages 5 and older.
