My youngest daughter is 18, so I missed out on the magic of Bongo Barry, but if you or your kids knew him, you might want to attend this free tribute on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at the Plaza branch of the Kansas City Missouri Public Library.
Mr. Stinkyfeet, Funky Mama, Dino O’Dell, and others will celebrate the life and music of the longtime Kansas City-area children’s performer “Bongo Barry” Bernstein.
A music therapy consultant for the Blue Valley School District, Bongo Barry was known for his innovative and entertaining methods of teaching music to children.
The tribute will feature Barry’s music, as well as songs by other artists. Attendees young and old are encouraged to wear tie-dye shirts and bring their own drums.
Beginning at 6:00 p.m., kids can participate in a crafts program to make musical instruments led by staffers from Wonderscope.
Register in advance online. The Plaza library is at 4801 Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri.
