The Chicago and Alton Depot is celebrating National Train Day this Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.
There will be model trains running inside the depot during the celebration, and there will be a reception on the grounds from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
You’ll also learn the history of the depot, which was originally built in 1879, and get to see how the station manager and his family lived. After the tour, you can browse through a small museum filled with railroad artifacts.
The Chicago and Alton Depot is located at 318 W. Pacific Avenue in Independence, Missouri.
