Memorial Day Weekend there will be a Hot Air Balloon Invitational in Kansas City (well, it’s actually in Gardner, but close enough). Pilots from across the Midwest will compete throughout the weekend. In a hot air balloon competition, the pilots try to maneuver their balloons to targets. The most accurate pilot wins.
This year is the third year for the competition, which takes place May 27-30, 2011. Friday night at 7:00 p.m. is a mass ascension, when all the balloons launch. Saturday and Sunday includes competitions at 6:30 a.m. followed by a day packed with meet-and-greets with the pilots, kids’ activities and a free concert. The final competition is at 6:30 a.m. on Monday. Check the complete schedule.
All flights are will be at Celebration Park at 159th Street and Kill Creek Road in Gardner, Kansas.
