A few clarifications about JCPRD’s A Day in the Park.
Because of the volume of visitors on this day, free rentals are limited to 30 minutes per boat, but you can go back and get in line as many times as you’d like. At the Shawnee Mission Park Marina, pedal boats, kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards are available. At Kill Creek Park, the marina operates out of the Beach House and kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards are available (no pedal boats). The free sailboat rides are part of a related event called Come Sail With Us in which members of the Johnson County Sailing Society let interested members of the public ages 18 and older take rides in their personal boats from noon to 1 p.m., beginning at the Shawnee Mission Park boat ramp. While JCPRD fishing permits and Kansas Fishing License requirements are waived for this day at Shawnee Mission, Kill Creek, and other JCPRD parks where fishing is allowed, JCPRD trout permits are still required on this day for those fishing for trout in Shawnee Mission and Kill Creek lakes.
