Could somebody owe you money? You may not think so, but you might be surprised. There could be an old bank account you thought you closed with a little bit of cash left in it. Or a state tax refund you forgot about while you were in the process of moving.
If so, how do you find this unclaimed cash? It’s actually pretty simple.
If you’ve ever lived (or worked) in Missouri, go to the Unclaimed Property portion of the Missouri State Treasurer’s website.
The Kansas State Treasurer also has an Unclaimed Property Division.
Once you get to the site, fill in your name and hit the search button. If you have unclaimed cash, the site will tell you how to collect it.
I tried this not too long ago, just for fun, and ended up with more than an extra $100 in my pocket. I can’t remember where it came from exactly, but it was money I had left behind from an old account of some sort.
So even if you don’t think this will apply to you, try it anyway. You never know…
